Ms. Cindy Chepanoske
As an accomplished leader in the field of Technology Transfer, Cindy has supported the Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation (CTTEC) at Carnegie Mellon University since 2012. While at CTTEC, she’s had various responsibilities related to licensing, patent management activities and new enterprise creation for several departments including Machine Learning, Language Technologies Institute, Computational Biology and the Computer Science Department. She's currently the Director of Technology Licensing and broadly supports the licensing efforts and dissemination of technology developed at Carnegie Mellon, leading a large diverse team of licensing managers that develop and maintain Carnegie Mellon’s vast and diverse IP portfolio, including digital assets. Additionally, Cindy manages the deal flow and strategy for enterprise creation to commercialize early stage technologies coming from all departments while working closely with economic development partners and the investment community to enrich Carnegie Mellon’s efforts toward entrepreneurship.
Cindy has negotiated and closed high-value licensing deals with a range of companies (Fortune 500 to startup companies) using creative approaches in this fast-paced and complex arena. Cindy also assists in negotiation of IP terms in sponsored research agreements with Carnegie Mellon’s important industry partners. Cindy has been an active AUTM member throughout her tenure and has served on the Software Committee since 2018, and frequently is a speaker on panels and webinars organized by AUTM and other organizations. Prior to coming to Carnegie Mellon, Cindy was the Program Director, Life Sciences and Informatics Services at Ceiba Solutions (acquired by Perkin Elmer) in support of their pharma customers' informatic software enterprise needs, including business development and strategy. Cindy received her B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in chemistry, specializing in analytical method development.
Mr. Daniel Dardani
Dan is a twenty-year veteran technology licensing professional, well-versed in technology transfer and intellectual property matters. He is currently the Director of Physical Sciences and Digital Innovations Licensing and Corporate Alliances at Duke University. At Duke, Dan is responsible for outreach, marketing, and licensing of Duke’s engineering, physical sciences, and digital innovations, including the exciting intersection of healthcare and medtech with software, AI and data applications. He also leverages translational funding for investments in nascent technologies. Prior to Duke, Dan was at the MIT Technology Licensing Office, managing a large and sophisticated portfolio of MIT technologies including: computer and information technology, patented algorithms, copyrighted software, digital imaging, video games, machine learning/AI, and cyber security technologies. Dan has negotiated license agreements with many Fortune 500 businesses and startup companies. He has also negotiated IP terms for substantive sponsored research and master strategic agreements with industry. Dan is a Certified Licensing Professional, CLP, who in his spare time co-taught a survey course on intellectual property matters at Harvard University’s Summer School for many years. He is broadly recognized as a leader in the field of software, AI, and data licensing, and is frequently sought to speak and present at professional conferences, symposia, and business meetings around the world. Dan is currently serving on the AUTM Board of Directors, the world’s leading nonprofit organization for technology transfer professionals. Before joining its Board, Dan was the chairperson of the AUTM Software Committee for many years. Dan is also an Advisory Board Member to the FAME (Fashion, Arts, Media, and Entertainment) Law Center at Cardozo Law School in New York City. He has degrees in physics and in political science from the University of Rochester and is pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Chicago.
